stabbing1OWENSBORO, Ky. (7/28/14) — A decision on whether to charge the suspect in a weekend stabbing at a motel on Frederica Street Saturday night is still being considered today, Owensboro Police Department Public Information Officer Michael Hathaway told SurfKY News.

The case could be considered by a grand jury instead, but the decision rests with the Commonwealth Attorney’s office, Hathaway said when asked about possible charges against the suspect.

The suspect, who hasn’t been identified by name, allegedly wielded a knife against three people Saturday night at 8:15 at the Motel 6, located at 4845 Frederica St. Police said the suspect knew one of the victims. Despite interviews with all of the victims and the suspect, Hathaway said the specific details of how the fight began and who started it were still unclear. The investigation is ongoing.

Victims were identified as Cagan Adams, 21, Owensboro, Douglas Callagee, 37, Owensboro and Russell Wells, 31, Owensboro. Adams and Wells suffered non-life threatening stab wounds. Wells suffered a critical wound to his abdomen and remains in critical condition at Owensboro Health, police said.

SurfKY News will provide additional updates as they become available.
