Brescia Ranked No. 1 in KIAC Fall College Sports

brescia 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/15/14) — The preseason coaches’ polls for all Fall KIAC sports have been released.

Teams picked by the coaches to win their respective sport are as follows: Asbury University (Women’s Soccer), University of Rio Grande (Men’s Soccer), Asbury University (Volleyball), Indiana University Southeast (Women’s Tennis), Indiana University East (Men’s Cross Country) and Brescia University (Women’s Cross Country).

Brescia University is the no. 1 ranking for the Women's Cross Country team and the no. 2 sport for women's tennis. The 2013-2014 Women's Cross Country Team was awarded the NAIA Champions of Character Team Award. The 2013-2014 Women's Tennis team was named a NAIA Scholar Team, finishing the year with a combined 3.16 GPA.

Brescia University Women’s Cross Country Preseason Favorite

The KIAC coaches have selected Brescia University as the top women’s cross country team, conference officials announced Thursday, Aug. 14. The Brescia women’s team won the 2013 conference championship last season. They collected 78 points in the poll including six first place votes. Team members were LeAnne Myers, Alejandra Matiz, Tarsila Duck, Dakota Durrett, Emily Hellinger, Jana Lindenthal and Ginny Beaven. Asbury University was last season’s championship runner-up and was selected in the second spot by league coaches with 75 points and four first place votes. Point Park University and is third with 62 points. Indiana University East is fourth with 59 points. Conference newcomer University of Rio Grande is fifth with 44 points. Carlow University is sixth with 38 points. They are followed by Indiana University Kokomo (34 points), Midway College (24 points), Cincinnati Christian University (19 points) and Alice Lloyd College (18 points). The 2014 cross country season will begin in late August and will conclude with the KIAC Championship on Nov. 8.

Indiana University Southeast Women’s Tennis Preseason Favorite

The KIAC coaches have selected Indiana University Southeast as the preseason favorite in women’s tennis for the 2014 season, conference officials announced Thursday, Aug. 14. IU Southeast collected 25 points including five first place votes. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. IU Southeast won the regular season and conference tournament championships last season. Brescia University was the conference tournament runner-up last season and sits in the second spot with 20 points and one first place vote. Asbury University was selected third by the coaches and received 16 points. Fourth place belongs to Carlow University with 10 points. Alice Lloyd College is fifth in the poll with 5 points. The 2014 women’s tennis season will begin in late August and will conclude the conference tournament Oct. 24-25.

Asbury University Women’s Soccer Preseason Favorite

The KIAC coaches have selected Asbury University as the preseason favorite in women’s soccer for the 2014 season, conference officials announced Thursday, Aug. 14. Asbury received 27 points including three first place votes. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. Point Park University was selected in the second position with 24 points, including two first place votes. Conference newcomer University of Rio Grande is third with 23 points and one first place vote. Completing the poll are Carlow University (22 points), Cincinnati Christian University (14 points), Brescia University (9 points) and Midway College (7 points). The 2014 women’s soccer season will begin in late August and will conclude with the conference tournament in November.

Rio Grande University Men’s Soccer Preseason Favorite

The KIAC coaches have selected the University of Rio Grande as the preseason favorite in men’s soccer for the 2014 season, conference officials announced Thursday, Aug. 14. KIAC newcomer Rio Grande received 15 points including three first place votes. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. Point Park University was selected in the second position by the coaches with 14 points and two first place votes. Asbury University was selected third by the coaches with 10 points. Brescia University and Cincinnati Christian University complete the poll with 7 points and 4 points respectively. The 2014 men’s soccer season will begin in late August and will conclude with the conference tournament in November.

Asbury University Volleyball Preseason Favorite

The KIAC coaches have selected Point Park University as the preseason favorite in volleyball for the 2014 season, conference officials announced Thursday, Aug. 14. Asbury collected 100 points including ten first place votes. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. Asbury was the 2013 regular season and conference tournament champion. Point Park University was selected in the second position with 78 points. Indiana University Kokomo received the other first place vote and is tied for third with Indiana University Southeast in the poll with 75 points. Indiana University East is fifth in the poll with 67 points. The rest of the poll includes conference newcomer University of Rio Grande (66 points), Carlow University (45 points), Cincinnati Christian University (42 points), Midway College (25 points), Brescia University (22 points) and Alice Lloyd College (10 points). The 2014 volleyball season will begin in mid-August and will conclude with the conference tournament Nov. 14-15.

Indiana University East Men’s Cross Country Preseason Favorite

The KIAC coaches have selected Indiana University East as the top men’s cross country team, conference officials announced Thursday, Aug. 14. They collected 56 points in the poll including three first place votes. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. Conference newcomer University of Rio Grande was selected in the second position with 53 points and four first place votes. Asbury University is in the third spot with 49 points and one first place vote. Brescia University is fourth with 48 points and one first place vote. Point Park is fifth with 39 points. They are followed in the poll by Indiana University Kokomo (30 points), Cincinnati Christian University (23 points), Carlow University (14 points) and Alice Lloyd College (12 points). The 2014 cross country season will begin in late August and will conclude with the KIAC Championship on Nov. 8.
