South Middle School Student Receives Bicycle to Build Strength

Henderson South Middle 300HENDERSON, Ky. (8/14/13) --Thanks to generous donations through South Middle School staff and donations made in memory of late community member Mr. Robert McConnell Reusch, Jr., South Middle School student Wendy Williams recently received an Amtryke bicycle to help build strength and movement.

Since Wendy is unable to ride a regular bike and only has access to an adapted bike at her school. South Middle School’s principal, Ryan Reusch, wanted to raise funds to help Wendy get a bike of her own for use at home. An Amtryke bicycle typically costs around $950, and Principal Reusch was determined to raise the funds for Wendy and her family. Staff members at South Middle School raised nearly $250. Additional funds were raised when an account was set up in Ryan Reusch’s father’s name when he passed away unexpectedly in June of this year.

Within one week, Principal Reusch had sufficient funds to purchase the bike for Wendy. Wendy now has her bike at home, which was assembled by the Henderson County Maintenance Department. Billy Austill, Preventive Maintenance Supervisor, generously donated his time to make sure the bike was assembled safely for Wendy.
