henderson chamberHENDERSON, Ky. (10/28/13) - A presentation by the executive director of the Kentucky Oil & Gas Association and a day of career education and hands-on experience for area high school students highlight the lineup of activities for the fourth Annual Plugged In Energy Week.

Andrew McNeil, head of KOGA, will speak to the Rotary Club of Henderson at noon Thursday at the Thelma B. John Early Learning Center. McNeil will give an update on the oil and gas industry in Kentucky, new developments in Western Kentucky and what the future could hold for oil and gas exploration in the region. Non-Rotary Club members can attend by contacting Julie Wischer at 270-831-0124.

Energy Week continues on Nov. 8 when select students from Henderson County, Union County and Webster County high schools will attend a day-long series of energy-themed informational sessions at the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Academy in Morganfield. The sessions will include information on energy-related careers, the chance to try coal mining simulators, demonstrations of oil pumping units and more. The featured speaker will be longtime Western Kentucky coal executive Danny Wooten.

As an added bonus for Energy Week, the public is welcome to attend a special Kentucky Oil & Gas Association technical program this Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Stagg Room at the Henderson Fine Arts Center. The first hour of the program will deal with EPA air regulations concerning oil and gas storage facilities. The last portion of the program will cover horizontal drilling activity in Western Kentucky and details about the New Albany and Lower Mississippian shale formations. The program is free, but patrons are encouraged to register by calling KOGA at (502) 226-1955.

Plugged In Energy Week is organized by the Northwest Kentucky Energy Initiative, a partnership of the Henderson-Henderson County Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Kentucky Forward, Union County First and the fiscal courts in Union, Webster and Henderson counties. The initiative's goal is to support the region's energy producers, help develop work force training opportunities in energy-related fields and promote Northwest Kentucky as a potential leader in energy technology and innovation.
