MADISONVILLE, Ky. (6/18/13) – Earlier today, SurfKY News was reporting from the scene of an accident that occurred at the intersection of College Drive and North Main in Madisonville. Madisonville Police Department (MPD) officials have now released further information on the wreck.
According to MPD officials, Madison West, 18, of Madisonville was stopped at the light facing east on College Drive in the left turn lane, driving a white 2005 Toyota Corolla. At the same time, 45-year-old Sherri Buchanan, of Madisonville, driving a white 2006 Ford Expedition, was traveling south on North Main in the right-hand lane approaching College Drive. Phillip Rutledge, 40, of Madisonville was facing north on North Main Street in the left turn lane at the intersection in a maroon 1996 Ford F250.
Rutledge made the left turn onto College Drive and failed to yield right of way to Buchanan, causing Buchanan to strike the right side of Rutledge’s vehicle with the front bumper. The force of the impact caused Buchanan’s vehicle to push Rutledge truck into West’s vehicle, while it was stopped at the traffic light.
Buchanan was transported to Baptist Health for treatment of injuries.
