ADVENTURE runMADISONVILLE, Ky. (6/21/13) – Preparations are being made for the first “Independence Bank: Madisonville is an Adventure Race,” which will be held Saturday, Aug. 10.

The adventure race involves a course that includes solving clues and participating in mental and physical challenges. Teams may register in four categories: competitive men’s, women’s and co-ed, and family. Pre-registration is required by Wednesday, July 31.

The event, sponsored by Independence Bank, will benefit the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program in Hopkins County Schools. PBIS is a research-based program designed to improve behavior by teaching students how they should behave in specific situations. Students receive positive reinforcement for following guidelines.

The race offers “an exciting urban adventure,” according to Hopkins County Schools’ district PBIS Coach Wendy Watts. Competitive teams solve 11 of 12 clues, while family teams solve five of six clues.

This event is considered appropriate for teams of varying levels of fitness, even at the competitive level. “We appreciate the support of Independence Bank, whose sponsorship of this event will help ensure the continued success of PBIS in Hopkins County Schools,” Watts said. “We hope to see a lot of participation from the community.”

The winner of the T-shirt Design Contest for the event has been won by Jadon Justice, who was a 4th- Grade student at Pride Elementary when he entered the contest. His design will be on the event shirts. He will also receive a $50 Chamber Check donated by Madisonville-Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce and Landmark Contractors, as well as free entry to the race.

The race will begin at the Hopkins County Judicial Center, 120 E. Center St., Madisonville. Competitive teams start at 8 a.m., with families set to begin at 8:45 a.m.

We will promote the adventure race at the July 24 Tradewater Pirates game at Elmer Kelley Stadium.

This will include a demonstration challenge. Registered participants can get a pre-race clue at the Aug. 9 Friday Night Live at the Independence Bank: Madisonville is an Adventure Race tent.

The registration form is available online at http://www.hopkins.kyschools.us/AdventureRaceForm. For more information, see the Independence Bank: Madisonville is an Adventure Race Facebook page.
