ANTON, Ky. (10/10/13) – It took less than 15 minutes of bidding to decide the new owner of the old Anton School building on Kentucky 85 in Anton this morning.

The auction began slightly after 10 a.m. by Gibson Auction with a $5,000 bid. There were approximately 100 people gathered to make their bids but only a handful of people were actively seeking the win.

The bids hovered at $89,000 for about five minutes, when it started up again and moved quickly over the $100,000 mark.

Eventually, Ricky Wilson of Ricky Wilson Construction was the highest bidder at $130,000.

Wilson declined to say what the exact plans were for the 27,875 square-foot building with its seven acres.

"There's a couple things I might do with it down the road," said Wilson as he was writing a check to the auction company.

Hopkins County Schools owned the property prior to today's auction.

Other surplus items will be sold beginning at 12:30 p.m. today at 110 Sugg Street in Madisonville including school buses, kitchen and cafeteria equipment and school furniture.
