arrest bentonMADISONVILLE, Ky. (11/4/13) – Shelia Benton, 39, of Madisonville was arrested on Nov. 2 for criminal trespassing, menacing, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer.

According to the Madisonville Police Department, officer Russell Nichols was called to the residence on South Main Street. Upon arrival, Nichols was informed Benton had entered the residence and was refusing to leave. Benton had received prior warnings not step foot on this property again, the report said.

Nichols reported that Benton was extremely intoxicated and had to be physically removed from the residence. During the removal, Benton was screaming at the children in the home and cursing and screaming racial slurs at officer Nichols.

Once Benton was placed in the back of officer Nichols cruiser, she attempted to kick the back window. Nichols also reported that he introduced spray to get her to stop, but she was able to assault him by kicking him in the chest and his upper right arm.

Currently, Benton is still in the Hopkins County Jail waiting on a pending $1,000 cash bail bond.
