MADISONVILLE, Ky. (1/2/14) ― A Madisonville woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck in front of Little Caesars Pizza on North Main Street about 12:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2.

According to a Kentucky State Police report, its preliminary investigation revealed that Zachary Lawless, 18, of Madisonville was driving a 1990 Chevrolet pickup truck south on North Main when a pedestrian, Patricia Smith, 49, entered the roadway and was struck by the front passenger side of Lawless' vehicle.

The Madisonville Fire Department was called to the scene to help extract the victim from under the vehicle. Fire crews used air lift bags to lift the vehicle off Smith, while Medical Center Ambulance personnel assessed determined that Smith had already died from her injuries.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by Hopkins County Coroner Dennis Mayfield.

The collision continues to be under investigation by accident reconstructionist KSP Sgt. Nicholas Rice.

Rice was assisted at the scene by Troopers Joseph Bartolotti, Cody Kromer and Louis Palmer, the Madisonville Police Department and the Madisonville Fire Department.
