pattie hawkins 300HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (1/11/14) — Patricia "Patti" Hawkins, who has held the positions of Hopkins County Judge-Executive and county magistrate, announced Friday, Jan. 10 that she is seeking the positon of 7th District magistrate. Hawkins held that position prior to her 2002 election as judge-executive.

Her announcement follows:

“For some time, I've contemplating how best to continue to help and serve my community. Within the past year, varioius citizens have come to me to inquire if I'd consider a run for public office. I've had support and sincere encouragement from both Democrats and Republicans. That speaks for itself.”

County government has always been that special place in my heart. It's closest to the people. When magistrate Maurice Wilson announced he would not seek another term, the timing seemed right for me to enter the race. This time, I'll not be in the background assisting others in their election bids but calling on those I've helped over the years to assist me.

I believe the current fiscal court and the accomplishments we've seen go to show what can be done in a community with continuity of government officials. We have a great county and I applaud those who work each day to ensure we remain as such. As someone who's held the office of magistrate and judge executive I believe I can be of great assistance to our county judge executive and fiscal court. I'll be honored to proudly serve with those fine folks, if given the opportunity.”

Hawkins, 56, is a graduate of Murray State University and holds degrees from Madisonville Community College. Among her other accomplishments, Hawkins is a Kentucky Association of Counties certified county official (masters level). She received special congressional recognition from U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield in 2002.

Hawkins currently serves as chairwoman for James Larmouth Family Resource Center's advisory council. Her other activities include appointments to board of directors of Crime Stoppers, Madisonville Community College and Hopkins County Democratic Executive Committee.

Hawkins retired from Pennyrile Allied Community Services in 2012.
