ST. CHARLES, Ky. (6/16/14) — A Madisonville man was killed after his vehicle left the road and turned over into a water-filled ditch about 3:28 p.m. Saturday, June 14.
According to a Hopkins County Sheriff's Office press release, Danny Stokes was driving a red 1995 Geo Tracker headed south on Union Temple Road about 3.5 miles north of the Christian County line in St. Charles, when he apparently dropped off the edge of the road.
Stokes apparently overcorrected causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which crossed over the northbound lane and rolled onto its top in the water-filled ditch. A passerby saw the vehicle and notified emergency personnel, the report said.
An unknown amount of time had lapsed before the vehicle was noticed. The press release stated that alcohol might be a factor in the accident and the investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing.According to Deputy Troy Gossett, St. Charles Volunteer Fire Department, Medical Center Ambulance Service and Kentucky State Police assisted at the scene.
