Madisonville Kmart to Close in October

kmartMADISONVILLE, Ky. (7/11/14) — The Kmart store located at 50 Madison Square Drive will be closing its doors to the public in mid-October 2014.

According to a statement by Howard Riefs, Director of Corporate Communications for Sears Holdings, store closings are part of a series of actions being taken to reduce ongoing expenses, adjust the company's asset base and hasten changes to the company's business model.

The store has 39 employees most of whom are hourly and part-time. Eligible associates will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.

The store will begin its liquidation sale Aug. 14.
