KSP Works Death Investigation from House Fire

Fire 03 house 300CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (6/12/13) – On Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at approximately 4:42 AM, Calloway County Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a residential fire located at 820 3rd Street, Hazel, KY.  Firefighters from Hazel Fire Department and Calloway County Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

The fire has claimed the life of an unidentified person.  An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday morning at the KSP Western Lab in Madisonville, KY to determine positive identification of the deceased and cause of death.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental in nature and no foul play is suspected at this time.  The fire investigation is ongoing and is being led by the Kentucky State Police Arson Investigator Rick Godsey.

The death investigation is being conducted by Detective Brett Miller.  Detective Miller and Arson Investigator Godsey were assisted on the scene by Deputy State Fire Marshall Bill Compton, Hazel Fire Department, Calloway County Fire Department, Calloway County Coroner Office and the Calloway County Sherriff’s Department
