Get Ready for PTA’s Run/Walk with 5K Training, Kids Marathon

pta2

LEXINGTON, Ky. (8/17/13)— The 16th District PTA’s third annual PTA 5K, a fundraiser that promotes family fitness and healthy lifestyles, is set for Sunday Oct. 20 at the Coldstream Research Campus off Newtown Pike. Training is again available to help students and families prepare for the run/walk, and the deadline to sign up for the eight-week program is Aug. 25.

Kids Marathon, a noncompetitive training plan, directs elementary students to log a total of 25.2 miles in the weeks preceding the event. On Oct. 20, the children will run, jog, walk or wheelchair the final mile, with each getting a medal for finishing the marathon.

The 5K training program is for middle and high school students and adults who need to work up to the full distance. Participants receive nutrition and training tips, and they are invited to a weekly group run.

The training and the Kids Marathon are free with paid entries for the PTA 5K or the one-mile fun run. Teachers and staff in Fayette County Public Schools are encouraged to participate.
