LEXINGTON, Ky (8/19/13)—Tomorrow night marks the first and only full moon of August. With it being the third moon in the summer season, the lunar event on Tuesday night will also be referred to as a Blue Moon.
Urban legend says that when the moon is full things can go a little haywire. People act abnormal, emergency rooms fill up, suicide, arson and crime rates increase, and even car accidents happen more often when there is a full moon. Could the urban legend be true?
Maybe it is just a coincidence that peculiar events happen on the days that the moon is full, but more people do get out of the house to enjoy the beautiful scene, which may result to the increase in accidents.
Are your coworkers, family members, or a loved one acting differently? Just blame it on the full moon. In reality, we don’t know if the moon has any affect on our emotions, but it seems like a pretty good scapegoat that urban legends and scientists have researched over the years.
If nothing else, go out and enjoy the only full moon of August tomorrow night. The next full moon is scheduled for September 19th.
