The Watering Hole; Want To Play? Go To Drakes

drakes 300LEXINGTON, Ky (10/10/13)—It was Wednesday and I had the mid week blues. One more hour of work and then I was ready to do one of two things; sleep or play. I had talked to a couple of my girlfriends earlier that day and they were wanting to go out for dinner and a few drinks so I decided that playing was obviously the best decision for the night. We had tossed up a couple of places we were interested in going but we finally came to a final decision. We chose Drakes because not only do they have a courtesy cab that would take us anywhere within 15 minutes of Drakes for free, but it’s also a restaurant that loves beer and a bar that loves food, and I’m a big fan of both.

I smiled as I looked to my left to see a man playing ring toss, effortlessly winning over and over again. In the back two middle-aged men were playing pool, and the loser had to buy the next round of drinks. Everyone around us had two things in common, they were at Drakes to eat and have a good time. Our waitress greeted us with a smile. Melissa Bartell always made sure that our glasses never seemed ‘half empty.’ After deciding that we were going to try out the boneless wings and calamari I treated myself with a Kentucky Ale.

“Our waitress made a great effort in making sure that we were happy,” Drakes patron Alyssa Elam said, “The beer flowed all night and my belly was full, I left there with a smile on my face.”

The music was set to shuffle between country, rock and hip hop so that every preference was fulfilled. I found myself singing along to Eric Clapton then five minutes later dancing to Miley Cyrus.

“The Kentucky down home welcoming atmosphere is my favorite part about working here at Drakes,” Security Manager Jeremiah Terry said.

Thursday through Saturday from 10 p.m. to close Drakes has $2 dollar well drinks, $1 draft beers and $1 mini burgers. Thursday is also ladies night and from 5 p.m. to close Drakes has $5 ‘happy rolls’ (sushi), $4 featured wine by the glass, and $4 Pinnacle cocktails.

The best part about Drakes is that all of my friends and I could enjoy ourselves and not worry about how we were getting home. After a few hours we walked outside to find the courtesy van waiting to take us wherever we wanted to go. From Tuesday to Saturday the courtesy van operates from 6 p.m. to close.

Drakes, come play.
