City Prepares for Severe Winter Weather

winterweatheradvisory02LEXINGTON, Ky. (1/2/14) — Freezing rain and snow are expected to hit the area today as temperatures drop to the low 20’s this evening. Forecasts are calling for up to two inches of snow for parts of north central Kentucky. A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of the area through 7 p.m.

The city’s Division of Streets and Roads is closely monitoring weather conditions in Lexington.

“We don’t expect any problems until Thursday night,” said Albert Miller, acting director of Streets and Roads. “The streets are wet but road temperatures are high enough that we don’t expect any accumulation of snow or ice.”

Miller said the city will bring an extra crew on at 8 p.m., “to make sure we’ve got everything covered.”

Lexington Police reported five non-injury accidents and one injury accident from 7 a.m. to mid-morning Thursday.
