Work Zone on I24 Bridge May Slow Traffic

ohio river bridge 300PADUCAH, Ky. (11/27/13) — The Illinois Department of Transportation has indicated a work zone on Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge between Metropolis, Ill., and Paducah will have to remain up through the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Due to heavy traffic expected during the holiday driving period, motorists should be alert for traffic backups as they approach the bridge at Illinois mile point 38.5 and Kentucky mile point 0.0.

To avoid delays, local passenger vehicle traffic between Paducah and Metropolis should consider using the U.S. 45 Ohio River "Brookport" Bridge during peak travel periods.

As a reminder, the U.S. 45 Ohio River Bridge, also known as The Brookport Bridge and the Irvin Cobb Bridge, is restricted to vehicles no more than 8 ft. wide. This excludes most commercial trucks from using it as an alternate crossing.

Area police agencies will be monitoring traffic near this work zone during the Thanksgiving Holiday driving period.
