Mayfield Man Charged with Manslaughter

Terry-HayesMAYFIELD, Ky. (8/15/14) — A Mayfield man has been charged after the suspicious death of his father.

Just after 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13, Kentucky State Police received a 911 call from a residence on Greg Street in Graves County.

The caller, Terry Hayes, stated that he arrived home to find his father, Bailey Hayes, deceased. Troopers and detectives arrived at the residence to conduct a death investigation. Investigators soon determined the death to be suspicious and requested an autopsy to be performed. An autopsy of Bailey Hayes was performed on Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Western Kentucky Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville.

As a result of the autopsy and evidence at the scene of the death, State Police Detectives executed a search warrant at the Hayes residence. Additional items of evidence were collected which lead to the development of Terry Hayes as a suspect in the death of his father.

On Thursday evening, detectives located, interviewed and subsequently arrested 44-year-old Terry Hayes. Hayes was charged with one count of Manslaughter First Degree. He was lodged in the Graves County Jail.

The investigation is continuing by Detective John Sims with the Kentucky State Police.
