BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (10/15/13) – On Monday, October 14, 2013, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a female stating she had been assaulted, and was being held against her will at knife-point by her boyfriend.
The victim, Brittany Furlong, stated that she and her boyfriend, Joshua Russell, were traveling in her vehicle when the assault took place. The victim was able to notify the Sheriff’s Office dispatch that Russell punched her in the face, and then held a knife to her throat, arm, and stomach while threatening to cut her if she stopped the vehicle. Russell also told Furlong that if the police came to help her, he would hit her in the head with his crow bar.
Deputies located the vehicle on Kentucky Highway 185 and conducted a traffic stop. Russell was immediately taken into custody without incident. Located in Russell's pants pocket was a black Smith and Wesson tactical knife which was used in the crime.
In the vehicle's passenger floorboard were two crow bars belonging to Russell. The victim had visible marks on her body as a result of the incident; however, medical attention was not sought. The couple's two children (22 month old and 4 month old) were inside the vehicle during the entire incident.
Russell was arrested and lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.
His charges included Assault Forth Degree Domestic Violence (Minor Injury), Unlawful Imprisonment First, and Wanton Endangerment First.
