Bowling Green Attorney Jennifer Brinkley Files to Run for Warren Family Court Judge

jennifer brinkley 300BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (12/16/13) – Bowling Green Attorney Jennifer Brinkley filed Monday, December 16, 2013 with the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office to run for Warren Family Circuit Court Judge, 8th District, 3rd Division. Brinkley is the first female attorney to enter the race.

“I am running for Family Court Judge because I have dedicated my career to serving the interests of families and children in Warren County,” Jennifer Brinkley said. “Family Court handles a wide range of cases, from custody to termination of parental rights, from domestic violence to adoption, from child support to juvenile offenses. I have practiced in every area of Family Court, and I also have experience in my personal life with many of these issues as a member of a blended family and as an adoptive parent.”

Jennifer Brinkley has an extensive record of professional and community service in Warren County. Brinkley has served on the Warren County Family Court Rules Committee where she helped draft the local Family Court rules. She has also served on the Foster Care Review Board where she made recommendations regarding foster care placements in Warren County. Brinkley has also served as a Guardian ad Litem, which is an attorney representing the needs of abused and neglected children, in Warren and surrounding counties. She was awarded the 2009 Guardian ad Litem of the Year award from CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). She currently serves on the Guardian ad Litem Committee for Warren Family Courts One and Two where she reviews Guardian ad Litem candidates and helps draft policy related to service as a Guardian ad Litem.

From 2009 to 2013, Brinkley worked as an Assistant Warren County Attorney where she handled juvenile public offenses, child support, mental health, misdemeanor, and guardianship cases.

“I understand that no one, with the exception of those celebrating an adoption, wants to be in Family Court. It is a time of great stress, frustration, and hurt for those who walk in the doors. Those individuals, often in their most desperate moments, need to be listened to and treated with respect,” Brinkley said.

Within the community, Brinkley has served on various boards and committees, including the Board of Directors for Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center, the Executive Board of Bowling Green Jr. Woman’s Club, and Girls Inc. She has also served as an At-Large Representative for the Kentucky Bar Association Young Lawyers Section, as a volunteer for Junior Achievement, and as a volunteer attorney for Lawyers Care, which provides pro bono legal services for the indigent. She is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Family Enrichment Center.

Jennifer Brinkley is a graduate of Western Kentucky University with both a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Arts in Criminology. She was named the WKU Outstanding Criminology Graduate Student of the Year for her original paper on the cycles of domestic violence with female defendants in Warren County. Brinkley is also a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law where she received various trial advocacy and Moot Court awards.

Brinkley is a member of the Kentucky and Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Associations. She is a lifetime member of the WKU Alumni Association and a member of Broadway United Methodist Church. She is married with two step-children and one son. She has recently published a book about her experiences as a member of a blended family and as an adoptive parent.
