Joseph Preston 'Joe' Rives, 65, of Hopkinsville, Ky

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Joseph Preston 'Joe' Rives, 65, of Hopkinsville, Ky passed away 6:00PM Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.

Mr. Rives was born in Christian County, KY on August 6, 1948, the son of the late Howard Preston and Margaret Mason Rives. He was retired from Southern States Co-op; he also worked at Johnson’s Tin Shop for 23 years. Joe was a member of Pembroke Baptist Church where he was treasurer. He was a past member of Salem Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. Joe served as past president of Ky Farm Bureau Federation and also was a board member of the Western Ky Fair Board where he served as Executive Director. He also was a member of the Cattleman Association, past Boy Scout leader, past 4-H and also past little league baseball coach. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Bowers Rives in January 1977, his daughter, Michele Rives Hancock in June 1991; his sister, Kay Farmer in April 2012.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Jennifer Thomas Rives of Christian County, KY; his son, Preston Rives of Christian County, KY; his daughter, Cindy Rives Stagner of Christian County, KY; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Kimberly Hyde of Christian County, KY.

Service will be at 10:00AM Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton with Rev. James Talley, Rev. Jimmy Stewart and Rev. Bobby Sellers officiating at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral with burial to follow in Rosedale Cemetery in Pembroke, KY. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday, September 20, 2013 at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home.
