Charles Leonard Sowell, 91, Hopkinsville, Ky

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Charles Leonard Sowell, 91, Hopkinsville, Ky passed away at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his residence of natural causes.

A native of Christian County born June 19, 1922, he was the son of the late Joseph Alexander and Fannie Bell Batts Sowell. He was retired after 35 years of service with Pennyrile Electric where he served as Electrification Advisor and Communications Officer. He was a member of Hopkinsville United Methodist Church.

He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club and former troop leader of Boy Scouts of America Troop #1002.

Survivors include his wife Vernell Sowell, one son, Michael Sowell and his wife Rita, Mt. Juliet, TN, one daughter, Beth Nicely, Nashville, TN and four grandchildren; Nathan Sowell, Uri Sowell, Sally McCloud and Ross Nicely.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Hopkinsville First United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Paige S. Williams with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2013 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Pennyroyal Hospice, 220 Burley Ave., Hopkinsville, Ky 42240 or to Hopkinsville First United Methodist Church, 1305 S. Main St., Hopkinsville, Ky 42240.
