OWENSBORO, Ky. - Joseph Remus May, 79, of Owensboro, KY passed away on Monday, May 13, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born September 24, 1933 in Daviess County to the late Joe P. and Mary Theresa Fenwick May.
He was also known as “Rink” to his friends. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 and was in the reserve until 1963. He retired from Sears as a service man and from Thriftway Lumber. Rink worked on clocks and made most anything from wood in his shop. He loved to sing and play practical jokes on everyone. He was one of the founders of the Moseleyville Volunteer Fire Department. He was very proud of his grandchildren and great grandchild and was an avid fan of any sport they were playing.
Aside from his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil May and Clarence May and three sisters, Mary Ruth Crabtree, Shirley Ann May and Alice Jane May.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Powers May, two children, Keith (Darlene) May of Panther and Robyn (Tom) Bachmann of Crystal Lake, IL, grandchildren, Krystal (Michael) Medley, Erica May, Nathan May and a great granddaughter, Lily Medley.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, at St. Martin Catholic Church with Father John Luke Stahr and Father John Ighacho officiating and burial to follow in St. Raphael Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Prayers said Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
