Barbara J. DeLong 79, of Bradenton, Fl

4flowerOWENSBORO, Ky. - Barbara J. DeLong 79, of Bradenton, Fl passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Bradenton Health Care. Barbara Jane DeLong was born May 2, 1934 in Fort Branch, Indiana to the late John Vic and Virginia Polk DeLong where she was a member of the Fort Branch United Methodist Church. After high school, Barbara received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Health and Physical Education at Indiana State University in Terre Haute and upon graduation accepted a teaching position at Indiana State. She received her Ph. D. from the University of Iowa in 1967 and later became a professor at the Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville Campus. While at Southern Illinois she was an active member of the faculty council and served as the council president. After her retirement, she moved to Bradenton, Florida and enjoyed traveling, golf, and tennis.

Survivors include her longtime friend, Lou Graham of Bradenton; an aunt, Grace Williams of Fort Branch; several cousins, friends, and former students.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Fort Branch with the Rev. Rick Miller officiating. Friends may visit with Barbara's family from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Friday at the church. Muster Funeral Homes is handling the funeral arrangements for Barbara's family.

The Barbara J. DeLong family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Fort Branch Alumni Association; P.O. Box 113; Fort Branch, Indiana 47648-0113. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at the church and at Musters in Calhoun.
