William R. 'Bill' Duke, 88, of Owensboro, Ky

OWENSBORO, Ky. - William R. 'Bill' Duke, 88, of Owensboro, Ky passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Western Ky Veterans Center in Hanson, Kentucky. He was born January 27, 1926 in Daviess County, Ky to the late Walter F. and Stella Duke. He retired from General Electric Company and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Bill was a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church and was a life member of the D.A.V. and N.RA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Medley and a grandson, Jeff Duke in May 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis K. Duke (Sherry) of Owensboro and William R. Duke, Jr. (the late JoAnn) of Charleston, SC; a daughter, Marian Ruth Turley (Dan) of Owensboro; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Duke Hall, Kevin Duke, Danette Mattingly, Stan Turley, Rebekah Roberts, Rachel Crook and Nikki Duke Corriher; several great grandchildren; a brother, Walter Duke, Jr. (Betty) of Owensboro; several nieces and nephews; and a longtime friend, Edna Nicely.

Services are 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2014, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial with military honors is in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Western Ky Veterans Center, 926 Veterans Drive, Hanson, Ky 42413.
