Athel L. Austin, 95, of Owensboro, Ky.

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Athel L. Austin, 95, of Owensboro, Ky., formerly of Calhoun, Ky. and Peoria, Ill., passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Athel Lee Taylor was born June 6, 1919 in Ohio County, Ky. to the late Adrian Madison and Maude Coleman Taylor and was married to Alfred Piercy Austin on September 15, 1946. Athel was a homemaker, a member of Calhoun United Methodist Church, and an avid University of Kentucky Basketball fan.

In addition to her parents, Athel was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Alfred P. Austin, who passed away June 26, 1997; two sons, Bobby R. Austin and Norman Morrow; and by a daughter, Sandra K. Austin.

Survivors include two sons, Hugh (Monica) Austin of The Villages, Fla. and Gene (Belle) Austin of Calhoun; three daughters, Annie Crawford of Calhoun, Rebecca (Kelly) Kline of Rockport, and Joan (Bill) Jordan of Ottawa, Ill.; nineteen grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with the Rev. Ken Berggren officiating. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Athel's family from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Friday at Musters in Calhoun.

The Athel L. Austin family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Calhoun United Methodist Church; P.O. Box 65; Calhoun, Ky. 42327. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.
