Myrtle Lucille Embry Sparks, 82, of Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Myrtle Lucille Embry Sparks, 82, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014, at her home. She was born May 30, 1932, in Hardinsburg to the late Archie Dell and Ellen Green Embry. She retired from the Cigar Factory and Hickory Springs. She was a member of Relevant Faith Church, the American Legion, VFW, and AMVETS. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, enjoyed flowers, shopping and crossword puzzles.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, James William Sparks in 1971; two sons, James Willis Sparks in 1998 and William Darrell Sparks in 2009; two brothers, A.C. Embry and Wavie Embry; and one sister, Martha Embry.

She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Ingrid Sparks of Nashville and Zelma Sparks of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Amy Sparks Dossett, Jared Sparks, Thomas Sebott, Monika (Jim) Ayers and Karin Sebott; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Carrie Roach of Utica; and her best friend, Myrle Dickens of Owensboro.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home with the Rev. Oda Shouse officiating. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Myrtle Sparks Memorial Fund, c/o Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home, 519 Locust St., Owensboro, Ky. 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
