Julian L. 'Duke' Smith Sr., 72, of Madisonville, KY

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - Julian L. 'Duke' Smith Sr., 72, of Madisonville, KY, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at his home.

He was born August 11, 1941 in Hopkins County, KY to the late Ann Wiles Perkins. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joetta Phillips.

Mr. Smith was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved spending time hunting, fishing, and was known for his keen sense of humor. His favorite hobby was his work, which was spent in the explosives and mining industry. He was also a KY Colonel and a Mason.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Julia Ann Wilson Smith; three daughters, Melissa (Greg) Ezell of Jeffersonville, IN, Kathy (Jeff) Higgins of Nebo, KY, and Kym (Stan) Davis of Madisonville; two sons, Julian (Marilyn) Smith Jr. of Charlestown, IN, and Chris (Shara) Smith of Sellersburg, IN; ten grandchildren, Heath (Brittney), Preston, Kymber, and Kyle Ezell, Juliana and Jarrett Smith, Ben Higgins, Baylee and Reese Smith, and Max Davis; and one great-grandchild, Kennedy Ezell.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Madisonville with Bishop Peter Clemens officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, November 4, 2013 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and 11:00 A.M. until service time on Tuesday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Heath, Preston, and Kyle Ezell, Jarrett Smith, Ben Higgins, Doug, Keith, and Lee Wiles, and Joseph Phillips. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Max Davis and Brian Nightingale.
