HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - Joe R. Allen, Sr., age 89, of Dawson Springs, Ky, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Tradewater Pointe Nursing Home in Dawson Springs, Ky. Mr. Allen was born on May 16, 1924, in Camden, TN to the late John Allen and Alice O’Bare Allen. He was retired after working 35 years with Ky Utilities and was a long time HAM radio operator. Mr. Allen was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts for many years, was a member of the Country Cousins HAM radio organization, enjoyed square dancing and was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Allen is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law ~ Joe R. and Vicki Allen of Dawson Springs, Ky and Donald and Dorinda Allen also of Dawson Springs, Ky; a daughter ~ Shelia Allen of Crossville, TN; two grandsons and their wives ~ Craig and Heather Allen and Jamey and Stacy Locke; four great-grandchildren ~ Sarah Allen, Jacob, Shelby and Hannah Locke.

Preceding Mr. Allen in death are his parents; his wife ~ Levolua Dugger Allen; brothers ~ Charles Allen and Cordiss Allen and a sister ~ Jenny Wilson.

Visitation for Mr. Joe Allen, Sr. will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 and from 8:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs, Ky. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 with Elder Jeff Winfrey officiating. Burial will follow in McNeely Cemetery, Dawson Springs, Ky.

Pallbearers will be Craig Allen, Kevin Fox, Jamey Locke, Jacob Locke, Chris Smiley and Kent Dillingham.
