Spurgeon 'S.M.' Gabhart, 82, Waverly

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. - Spurgeon 'S.M.' Gabhart, 82, Waverly, passed away Sunday December 15, 2013 at 7:14 a.m. at Deaconess Hospital.

He was born in Smith Mills on September 12, 1931 to Charles Spurgeon Manley and Addielie (Haynes) Gabhart. S.M. was a lifelong farmer, member of Corydon Masonic Lodge #799, York Right, Rizpah Shrine Temple and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He also loved to fish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 infant daughters.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Barbara Gabhart; 1 son: Charles 'Spurg' Gabhart of Smith Mills; 1 Granddaughter: Kayla M. Gabhart; His beloved Granddog: Sugar.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday December 18, 2013 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Henderson Chapel. Rev. Glen Sowards will officiate.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military rites conducted by the American Legion Worsham Post 40 Honor Guard and Burial Detail.

Visitation will be Tuesday 4-8 p.m.  and Wednesday Noon until service time at the funeral home.

Masonic services will be held at 6:00 p.m. conducted by the Corydon Masonic Lodge #799.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Smith Mills Baptist Church or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Pallbearers will be John Denton, Brandon Williams, Mike Utley, Jack Yates, Jr., Dwayne Talley, Darryl Utley, Bruce Cowling and Joel Wilhour.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Tom Utley, J.R. Sowards and Waymon Kellen.
