LEXINGTON, Ky. - Dr. Gwendolen Lee, 77, beloved wife of David Lee Terry, succumbed to Alzheimer’s Disease July 5, 2013. Born in Chenoa, KY on October 12, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Shelby and Elizabeth Gampher Lee. She was a retired professor of Nursing at the College of Nursing, University of KY where she specialized in parent-child nursing, nurse-midwifery, and maternal-child health early intervention. She did research, teaching and mentoring to many nursing students during her tenure. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church Lexington, KY. She graduated from Knox Central High School in 1952 and her academic achievements beyond high school include: Diploma from the School of Nursing, Nashville General Hospital, Nashville, TN (9/7/1955); BS from Stetson University Deland, FL (5/31/1959); MS from the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO (8/22/1969), and a Doctor of Education from University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN (8/24/1973). Prior to coming to the University of KY, she served on the faculties of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Clemson University, University of TN (Memphis), and University of WA (Seattle).
Survivors other than her husband include her brother: Keith (Maggie) Lee, Heidrick; nieces: Shawn Lee, Heidrick, and Barbara Kay (Leroy) Smallwood, Louisville; nephew: Ned Steven Stewart, Artemus; great nephews: Casey (Sterling) Smallwood and Forrest Smallwood; great grandnephew: Clay Smallwood; great grandniece: Jolee Smallwood; step-children: Mary Ellen Roddy, Nicholasville; Amanda Jane Terry, Hebron; and, Janet Lee (Lannie) Sproul, Lexington; step-grandchildren: Tyler Roddy, Samantha Roddy, Amelia Zumwalde, and Cassidy Sproul. She was preceded in death by a sister: Forestene Lee Stewart; a brother: John Robert Lee; and a step-grandchild: Ashley Zumwalde.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.
