LEXINGTON, Ky. - Dr. Joe Thomas Broderson, MD, 66, husband of Barbara Johnson Broderson, passed away at his home, Sun, Sept 1, 2013. Born in Franklin, KY, he was the son of the late Louis Henry and Lucy Mae Broderson.
A graduate of the UK College of Medicine, Asbury Theological Seminary and Duke University, Dr. Broderson practiced Christian Psychiatry in central Kentucky. He enjoyed playing Rook, collecting coins and guns, and was an avid UK basketball fan.
In addition to his wife of 37 years, he is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Joy Hosley (Justin), Versailles, Sarah Elizabeth Graddy (Hawthorne), Raleigh, NC and Caitlin Christine Broderson, Versailles; brothers, John Paul Broderson, MD (Marcey), Frankfort and Alvin Benton Broderson, Ph.D. (Ann), Lexington; and two precious grandchildren, Maggie and Oliver. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Lee Broderson.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Thurs at MIlward-Southland, 391 Southland Dr, Lexington, KY . Burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Wed. Reynolds Rd, Suite 201, Lexington, KY 40517. Carolyn Gilson Gabbert, 89 passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013. She was a life-long resident of Lexington, Kentucky.
Born January 1, 1924 to Ruby Cosby and Edwin Craig Gilson, she is preceded in death by her husband William Richard Gabbert in 2009, a son, William Richard Gabbert, Jr. in 1977, a daughter, Julia Gabbert Morris in 2012 as well as her sister Patricia Gilson Morris who passed away in 2006.
She attended Henry Clay High School and the University of Kentucky where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. During World War II, she was a nurse’s aid at both Good Samaritan and St. Joseph Hospitals.
She married William Richard Gabbert in 1946. Her surviving children and grandchildren include, Douglas Craig Gabbert, married to Mary Houlihan Gabbert, Spartanburg, SC. Grandchildren Pattie Glassick, Denver, CO, Carolyn Gilson Estopinal, Nashville, TN, and Douglas Van Meter Gabbert, Orange, VA. Leigh Gabbert Burgin, married to Joseph Burgin, and grandson Joseph Burgin, all of Forest, VA. Michael Edwin Gabbert, married to Brenda Young Gabbert, grandchildren include Michael Edwin Gabbert Jr., Robbie Gabbert of Lexington, KY. Katie Gabbert Oechsli , and great-grandson Chase of Louisville, KY. Christine Gabbert Morris, granddaughter, Frankfort, KY.
She taught at Arlington School and substituted in the Fayette County School System, was a board member of the Baby Health Service, YMCA, Cardinal Hill Hospital, the Lexington Junior League, Fayette County Children’s Board and the U.K. Alumni Board. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
She was a founding member of the UK LFUCG Arboretum, chairman of the Council Garden Clubs, President of the Town & Country Garden Club and Hunt Morgan Garden Club. She was also a Master Gardener.
A graveside service will be Saturday, September 7th at 10:00am at Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30 until 7:00pm Friday at the funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Doug Gabbert, Mike Gabbert, Michael Gabbert, Robbie Gabbert, Douglas Gabbert and Joseph Burgin.
