LEXINGTON, Ky. - Erpha M. Webb, 88, is survived by a son, Eugene Webb, Jr., a daughter, Barbara (Roy) White, a grandson Roy (Laine) Webb, adopted son, Larry (Nita) Bain and a bird, named Bird. She also served as Mamma, Granny or as a simple anonymous kindness to the breadth of lives she touched.
She was a five foot dynamo that never got old. As the world spun she held the beat from Krupa to Cobain. The more it all changed the better she understood her Hip Cats, the more prophetic her words to them became.
She maintained amazement for the natural world, a love of common simplicity, an ear for harmony and a taste for cheese fries. She was as large as she was small. A resonating heart beat of comfort and hell on wheels with a paddle.
She held an unflappable faith in God that was indivisible of goodness. She understood that salvation did not lie in purity and prayer but rather redemption and the capacity for forgiveness.
No better example came than in her undying love for a blue eyed son of a bootlegger. One who smoked too much, drove too fast and loved her most of all. In the end she missed him more than she could bare, he had waited for her as long as he could stand, in the end, it was time.
A child of the depression she never abided good money spent on dead flowers. In lieu of pity posies do something, if only a touch or a word, to make it a better place.
Celebration of Life service will be on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, 11:30 AM, Milward-Southland, with burial following at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.
