LEXINGTON, Ky. - James Evan Black III of Lexington, Ky son of the late James E. Black Jr. and Helen Wingate Black and loving husband of 45 years to Sherry G. Black, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013.
He was a graduate of Bryan Station High School where he was a trumpet player and drum major in the band. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Ky. He was a professional civil engineer, land surveyor and geologist and the owner and operator of J. E. Black, PLLC, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ky Civil Engineering Department. He took an active role in leadership positions with many associations. His hobbies included gardening and wood working.
Besides his wife, he was a loving father to two daughters, Catherine (Alec) McGillivray, Tampa, FL and Lauren (Jeff Allen) Black, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; one brother, Garey W. (Sharon) Black, Versailles, KY; two nieces, Ashley and Randi; two grandchildren, Molly and Evan McGillivray.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Milward – Broadway with burial to follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
