LEXINGTON, Ky. - Phyllis Eunice Grant, 87, passed away December 3, 2013. She was born on May 18, 1926 in Redfield, New York to the late Theo and Agnes Duane Grant. Phyllis was a long time resident of Free Port, FL and Lexington, KY. She was also a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the Society of Air Force Nurses; a charter member of the Half-Shire Memorial Society and the Women in Military Service for American Memorial.
Lt. Col. Grant was a retired registered nurse who began her nursing career in New York. Later she entered the United States Air Force where she served her country from 1958 till 1978. During her time in the air force she was stationed in the United Kingdom, Korea, Japan and several locations in the US. Assuming increasing levels of responsibility she rose through the ranks and she retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. In recognition of her service achievements she was awarded: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Recognition Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon and Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings; Eloise, Dexter, Duane, Barbara, Phillip, Lawrence and Helen. Lt. Col. Grant is survived by a brother Theo E. Grant (Mary Ann) of Pasadena, TX, a sister-in-law Liz Grant of Redfield, NY and brother-in-law Alex Ciccihinelli of Philadelphia, PN and Rome, Italy. She is also survived by 34 loving nieces and nephews among which 6 godchildren; Marcia, Janet, Kathy, Ellen, Jim and Patti and their numerous descendants.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Richmond Place, 3051 Rio Dosa Drive, Lexington, KY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Half-Shire Historical Society, 1100 County Rt 48, Richland, NY 13144 or Women in Military Service for America Memorial, Women’s Memorial Foundation, Dept 560, Washington, D.C., 20042-0560.
