LEXINGTON, Ky. - Harold Wilson Soper, 77, retired from Southern Belle Dairy, loving husband of 50 years to Nina Brandenburg Soper, passed away December 4, 2013. He was born August 13, 1936 in Bourbon County, KY. Raised in Millersburg, KY, Harold was the son of the late Everett & Essie House Soper. Harold was a Ky Colonel and was active in the development of Lexington parks and youth sports programs. He had a love for sports including softball, where he was inducted into the Ky Softball Hall of Fame. Harold played fast pitch softball for years and then managed a very successful softball team who won multiple championships and was a national finisher. Harold had a career with Dixie Bell/Southern Belle Dairy in Lexington where he retired after 50 years.
Survivors are two devoted children, a son, Philip Alan (Joy) Soper of Versailles, KY and a daughter, Kimberly Leigh Soper of Lexington. One granddaughter, Taylor Elizabeth Soper of Versailles. Special sister-in-law, Bettye Prewitt Soper of Paris, KY. Three beloved nieces, Brenda (Claude) Berry, Linda (Victor) Bromagen and Susan Soper, all of Paris. Two nephews, Steve (Jessica) Kennedy and Don (Kay) Kennedy, all of Austin, TX. Also survived by Six Great Nephews and Six Great Nieces, 5 Great Great Nephews and 1 Great Great Niece.
He was preceded in death by his brother and best friend Clyde B. Soper of Millersburg and sister, Cordelia (David) Kennedy of Austin and niece Jeannie Soper of Paris.
Pallbearers will be his beloved great nephews, Chris Bromagen, Nicholas (Leah) Bromagen, Adam Berry, David Soper, John Soper and Michael (Ashley) Swearingen. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass or a favorite charity.
