LEXINGTON, Ky. - Albert Roberts Christian Sr., 95, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014. He was born in Nashville, TN to John and Bertha on Jan. 23, 1919. He was one of four with a sister Nina and two brothers Ernest and Robert. He was blessed with two wonderful wives. Mary Louise Hunter, who gave him four children; Charles, Dorothy, Joseph and Al Jr. Mary Louise and Albert raised their children at Centenary United Methodist Church where they remained active for many years. They were avid gardeners and were a part of a special community on Greenbrier Rd. Cancer claimed Mary Louise much too early at 63.
Albert was remarried at First Methodist Church to Rebecca Harris who gave him much happiness and companionship in his later years. The couple travelled extensively and remained close to family. Rebecca passed away in July, 2012.
Professionally, Albert was Vice President and GM of Foster and Creighton Co. who helped shape the skyline of Lexington with numerous Construction Projects at UK, IBM and many hospitals in Central Ky. Known as 'Chris' in these circles he was a great leader and mentor to many.
Albert was a 33rd Degree mason; active in the Oleika Shrine Temple, Robert M. Sirkle Lodge #954 and served many years on the Shriners Hospital board. He truly knew the meaning of humility and service and always put others first. He was an accomplished violinist and touched many with his passion for music and humor.
Albert was survived by his children, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday Feb. 17, 2014 at Milward-Southland from 5-8 p.m. with a Masonic service presided by Mr. Doyle Rambo at 7: 00 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at Milward-Southland Drive Tuesday at 11AM with Rev. Tom Grieb of Centenary Presiding.
Pallbearers are: Billy Blevins, Lee Comely, Forrest Dean, Buddy Hager, Paul Rose, and Mike Zimmerman
In Lieu of flowers, Albert requested donations be given to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, Ky, 40502.
