Joyce Angeline Bryant, age 75, of Paducah, Ky

obit5PADUCAH, Ky. - Joyce Angeline Bryant, age 75, of Paducah, Ky, passed away Sunday, June 30th, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Joyce was born on October 19th, 1937 in Ballard County Ky.

She was a graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School and later earned unofficial degrees in expert mothering, cooking, counseling, rocking sleeping grandkids, Sunday School teaching, and clothing/feeding whole families at a time. Her time here on this earth affected numerous people, from those who rode her school bus she drove to strangers she happened to meet and everyone in between. Known as “Mama B” to friends of her children, she opened the doors (including the ones of the refrigerator) to her heart and home, endearing everyone to her with her sense of humor, caring spirit, and unique personality.

Besides her strong dedication to family, Joyce was best known for her dedication to God. She was his faithful servant; a member of First Baptist Church of Paducah for 55 years and Sunday school teacher for 30 years. She never ceased to amaze her adult students; Joyce kept their attention by teaching in such costumes as a Roman Soldier and The Bride of Christ . She loved the Lord and wanted the world to know it.

She is survived by a son, Olin Wayne Bryant, Jr. of Lexington, KY; two daughters Susan Hughes (Mickey) and Kelly Holshouser (Gary) all of Paducah; twelve grandchildren, Lindy Simmons (Ryan) of Paducah, Bryant Williams (Emma) of Bradenton Fl., Nancy Williams of San Antonio TX, Caroline Bryant, Russell Olin Bryant and Gretchen Bryant all of Lexington, KY, Graham Holshouser, Whitby Holshouser, Paige Holshouser, Gavin Holshouser all of Paducah, Regina Story (Jeff) of Yukon Ok and Brent Hughes (Debbie) of Antioch TN; five great-grandchildren, Case Simmons of Paducah, Jordan Batchelor and Hugh Batchelor both of Yukon, Ok, Isaac Hughes of Paducah and Zavier Hughes of Antioch, Tn.

She was the daughter of the late Elsie Haynes Dunn Hunt and Commie Dunn and is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Olin Wayne Bryant Sr. She also follows her late sister, Betty Dixon and two brothers, Lindy Dunn and Commie Dunn Jr.

A celebration of the life of Joyce Bryant will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Paducah with Rev. Mark Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in the North Ballard Baptist Church Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Paducah.

Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah is in charge of arrangements.
