BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Gene Porter Taylor, 89, of Bowling Green, Ky passed away on July 25, 2013.
He was born on September 17, 1923 in Allen County, Ky. Gene was a graduate of Scottsville High School and attended Western Ky State Teachers College. He was a veteran of World War II, was wounded during action in the Battle of the Bulge and awarded the Purple Heart twice. Gene was a Charter member and deacon at White Plains Baptist Church and a current member of Calvary Baptist Church. He retired from Southern Ky Community Action as the transportation supervisor. He is preceded in death by his parents: Leslie and Erma Taylor; late wife: Maureen Taylor; and his son: Joel Taylor.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years: Marie K. Taylor of Bowling Green; daughters: Nancy Taylor Stinnett of Scottsville and Tammie Gifford (Jerry) of Bowling Green; grandsons: Brent M. Stinnett (Katie), Daniel Gifford, and David Gifford; brothers-in-law: Harold Keown and Mearl Keown; sisters-in-law: Sarah Jones (Roger) and Carole Brothers (Jack) all of Bowling Green.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday with funeral at 1 p.m. Monday at J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel. Interment will be at Crescent Hill Cemetery in Scottsville.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital and White Plains Baptist Church in Scottsville.
