BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Jane Hutcherson Purpus, 52, passed away at home early on July 26, 2013 after a five-year battle with breast cancer.
Jane is survived by her two daughters: Kelley Carr Purpus and Emily O’Connor Purpus both of Bowling Green; her parents: Kelley and Martha Jane Hutcherson of Versailles, KY; siblings: Kate Robie (and her husband, Ed) and John Hutcherson of Versailles and Eve Hutcherson of Nashville; nieces: Amanda Sayles, Annie Hutcherson, and Meg Robie; nephew: Jack Robie; and scores of extended family members and friends in Bowling Green and beyond.
Jane was a native of Louisville, KY but made Bowling Green her home since 1990. She was a 1978 graduate of Woodford County High School in Versailles, KY and a graduate of Western KY University where she completed her degree in nursing. Jane worked as a registered nurse for nearly 30 years, devotedly caring for patients in hospitals, physician offices, and outpatient centers, and she especially loved her long years of service in labor and delivery nursing. She steadfastly watched over the health needs of family members, attending and helping to navigate surgeries, illnesses, and the birth of her niece and great-nephew.
In addition to nursing, Jane taught health careers at Bowling Green High School, helping high school students understand and prepare for the work that she loved. She also served the community as an active volunteer, including in the schools attended by her daughters and in raising funds to support breast cancer research.
Jane’s family wishes to thank the countless friends and neighbors who helped provide care and support during Jane’s long journey with cancer. Contributions in Jane’s memory may be made to Susan G. Komen Foundation.
