wc baseb1 300HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (7/24/14) — The Webster County High School baseball program will be under the direction of a new head coach in the 2015 season.

Former Madisonville-North Hopkins High School star player John Ashby has been tabbed to guide the Trojans.

Ashby replaces former head coach Zack Traylor, who resigned from his spot at the top of the Webster County program after accepting a position in Paris, Tenn.

Set to guide Webster County in his first season as a head coach, Ashby graduated from Madisonville-North Hopkins in 2005. His playing career at Madisonville-North Hopkins consisted of five seasons. As a catcher, Ashby helped lead Madisonville-North Hopkins to five straight 7th District championships.

Following high school, Ashby played at Oakland City University in Michigan before transferring to Transylvania University.

He graduated from Transylvania University with a degree in Business Administration in 2009.

Ashby's coaching experience includes assistant coach roles with the Madisonville American Legion team and the Madisonville-North Hopkins squad.

Currently employed at General Electric in Madisonville, Ashby will also join former teammate Parker McCalister on the Webster County girls' basketball bench as an assistant coach. McCalister returned to the Lady Trojans' program earlier in the year.

Ashby inherits a Webster County baseball team that compiled a 9-22 record in 2014. The Trojans fell to host Union County in the opening round of the 6th District Baseball Tournament.

The 2015 Webster County baseball schedule has not yet been finalized and released.
