OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/9/13) – As varsity and junior varsity football players and cheerleaders at Daviess County High School filed in to the bleachers at the DCHS football stadium for “media day” photos, DCHS Football Coach Marcus Kimbrell said he has a “great vibe” at this year’s team of players.
“I’m excited about the season,” he said. “We’ve got a real coachable group of kids this year.”
Kimbrell said this year’s team includes the smallest senior class he’s worked with in his eight years with DCHS, but noted most of them have been on the team throughout their high school tenure.
Kimbrell isn’t the only one excited about the team this year. Three of the team’s seniors – Luke Bailey, quarterback; Darren Jones, safety/tightend; and Travis Birchler, defensive end – said they expect this to be a “good season.” Bailey said this year’s team has “the right attitude” and is a “closer team” than in past years.
Bailey sat out part of the season last year after he was injured, but said he’s looking forward to playing again in his last year at DCHS.
“It’s been great to get out on the field,” he said.
The season starts Friday, Aug. 23, when DCHS takes on Owensboro High School.
