OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/27/13) – Last Friday the high school football season kicked off great for the Owensboro Catholic Aces and not so great for the Apollo Eagles. After a slow start the Aces pulled away to win 45 – 6.
Senior quarterback Houston Hartz pointed out that both the receivers and the defense played great. Aces Coach John Edge agreed, saying he was proud of how his team was able to get in a rhythm and start to wear down Eagles with their up-tempo style of play. It’s something he wants to continue to improve upon.
“Our defense really played well, but we have to tackle better,” Edge said.
This week the Aces will take on the Daviess County Panthers. When talking about the upcoming game, Edge said he thinks the Panthers are really athletic on both sides of the ball. He said their players on defense fly around the ball, while the offense weapons are capable of scoring on every play. The keys to the game this week for the Aces are tackling better and to improve the pass protection to protect their quarterback.
Catholic High will take on the Panthers Friday at 7 p.m. at Steele Stadium.
