OWENSBORO, Ky. (10/15/13) – It was a battle that both teams wanted to win badly.
The second game in the 9th District boys soccer tournament Monday had fans from both schools, the Owensboro Catholic Aces and the Owensboro Red Devils, on their toes as they watched a scoreless game go into halftime. Catholic got on the board with around 11 minutes left in the game when Nathan Jacobs caught a corner kick rebound. Then with five minutes left, Aces’ Cameron O’Bryan made a good move and kicked in the game sealing goal. The Aces shut-out the Devils with a 2-0 win.
Aces Head Boys Soccer Coach Andy Donohoe challenged his players at halftime to up their level of play. They did just that by controlling the ball and pushing the tempo the rest of the night.
Coach Donohoe said he is prepared for Wednesday’s battle against Daviess County for the District title.
“Both games (against DC) were close and this game is going to be another heavyweight battle,” Donohoe said. “Both teams are very similar, I wouldn’t be surprised if this game would also go into overtime.”
The 9th District Championship game will take place at Owensboro Catholic High School Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
