OWENSBORO, Ky. (10/16/13) – Following a three-way tie for first place in the girls soccer 9th district between Owensboro, Daviess County and Owensboro Catholic, there was a draw to determine the seeding. Owensboro drew first seed and had to play a struggling Apollo E-gals team.
For Owensboro, Tuesday night’s game against Apollo should have been over early, but Apollo held its own to slow down the Devils.
“They had a great game plan,” Head girls’ soccer coach Scott Pulliam said. “They kept numbers in the back of the field to slow us down and we had a hard time dealing with it. We were very fortunate tonight. We scored on the PK (penalty kick).”
Apollo’s “game plan” almost worked keeping the game close all the way. Owensboro ended up winning 1 – 0, but Apollo had opportunities to score late.
Owensboro will go on to face Owensboro Catholic Thursday night at Deer Park Elementary for the district championship. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
