OWENSBORO, Ky. (10/21/13) – Wednesday night was a heavy weight battle between Owensboro Catholic and Daviess County, which decided the 9th District championship.
Daviess County scored seven minutes into the game whenever Nolan Mattingly kicked in a goal that bounced off the Aces goalie. The Panthers went into half time with the lead 1 – 0 and then they controlled most of the second half. It wasn’t until 55 seconds left into the game whenever Catholic answered. Catholics goal came off a header from Cameron O’Bryan.

This time the game would go into penalty kicks. Catholics first three players scored on their penalty kicks, the Panthers would make the first two and then miss the third. Then Cameron O’Bryan for the Aces came up big again whenever his kicked sealed the victory for the 2-1 Aces.
Owensboro Catholics head coach Andy Donohoe, said after the game,” We fully deserved our win. We played very well. In the second half we were throwing the kitchen sink at them and finally luck went our way.” He was proud how the Aces showed great character and kept their heads up.
Daviess County head coach Doug Sandifer was frustrated after the game. He said, “We gave up that goal late in the game, but that’s why you play until the whistle.”
The Aces and the Panthers will both advance to Region play. They will have to wait until Sunday to find out their opponents.
