Wildcats face Lady Vols at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday at UK Soccer Complex

uk soccerLEXINGTON, Ky. (10/10/13) – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team returns home to the UK Soccer Complex for a border-state showdown with Tennessee on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET in Lexington.

The Wildcats enter Friday night’s match with a 10-2-1 overall record and 4-1-0 in the SEC. The Wildcats are just one point off the lead of the Southeastern Conference, currently sitting on 12 points through the first five games of the conference season. The Tennessee Lady Vols are 7-4-2, with a 2-2-1 SEC record under second year head coach Brian Pensky.

Kentucky has won each of the last three regular season meetings between the two sides, all by shutouts. In the last meeting between UK and UT, then-freshman Kelli Hubly scored the game’s only goal in the 71st minute, as the Wildcats went to Rocky Top and picked up a 1-0 win.

Hubly this week was named to the TopDrawer Soccer National Team of the Week, after her three-point weekend against Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. Hubly scored her first goal of the season against the Bulldogs, as well as assisting on the game-opening goal to senior Caitlin Landis.

Friday’s match will be the last stand-alone weekend in SEC play, as there will be no Sunday games in the league, with all 14 teams just playing a Friday match and having an open date on Sunday.

This will be the 23rd all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Lady Vols, with Tennessee holding a 12-10-0 edge over UK in the series. Tennessee is one of five opponents that Kentucky has beaten 10 or more times in program history (LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt). At the UK Soccer Complex, Tennessee holds the 5-3-0 edge in the series.

Kentucky is looking to move to 5-1-0 in SEC play for the first time since 1999, which was the last time UK won five of its first six conference games.

The Tennessee Lady Vols enter Friday night’s match with a 7-4-2 overall record, and an even 2-2-1 in SEC play. Tennessee had a split weekend last time out, defeating No. 25 Ole Miss on Friday night, and then dropping a 1-0 double-overtime match to No. 19 South Carolina in Knoxville.

UT has one win over a ranked opponent, as they knocked off No. 17 Central Florida, 2-1 on Aug. 30. The Lady Vols have knocked off Ole Miss and Texas A&M in SEC action thus far.

The Lady Vols are led in scoring by Hannah Wilkinson and Caroline Brown, who each have five goals on the season. Eight different players have scored a goal for UT in 2013. In goal, junior Julie Eckel has been in the net every minute of every match for the Lady Vols, sporting a 0.74 GAA.
