UK Soccer v2 300CHARLOTTE, N.C. - After a scoreless first half, Charlotte took advantage of an own goal from the Kentucky men's soccer team to post a 1-0 win, on a pleasant Saturday night at Transamerica Field.

Kentucky (4-7-1, 1-2-1 Conference USA) and the 49ers battled through the first 45 minutes in a scoreless game. In the 47th minute, a UK defender tried to clear a ball by the near post, but his clearance sailed into the back of the net for an own goal and the game-winning tally for Charlotte.

UK sophomore goalkeeper Callum Irving had a dynamic game in goal, despite the own goal. The Vancouver, British Columbia, native finished with a career-high six saves, including four huge saves to keep UK within striking distance in the second half.

Charlotte (5-5-3, 1-3-2 C-USA) finished with a 16-7 advantage in shots and an 8-1 mark in corner kicks, marking just the second game that the Wildcats had been outshot and the first since Sept. 5 at East Tennessee State

UK will return to action on Wednesday, hosting No. 29 Tulsa at 7 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.

The 49ers got on the board after a scoreless first half in the 47th minute, as Charlotte had a run down the middle of the field, with UK's center back getting in position to clear it by the near post, with his clearance sailing strong into the back of the net for an own goal.

GAME NOTES: Freshman Charlie Reymann had his start streak snapped at 11 games ... Tyler Riggs and Isak Krogstad were UK's first subs of the game ... Charlotte now leads the series, 2-0 ... Senior defender Steven Perinovic won 8-of-11 contested header attempts in the game and has now won 97-of-122 contested header attempts in 2013 ...
