GOLDEN POND, KY. – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area hosted the 35th Annual Special Populations Fishing Tournament on Honker Lake, Saturday, June 2. Over 75 participants, caregivers, and volunteers attended this free fishing tournament.
 
Tournament winners, in order of placement, included First Place, Douglas Gray of Benton, KY; Second Place, Aaron Epley of Hopkinsville, KY; Third Place, Cheyenne Byrd of Hardin, KY; Fourth Place, Tequila Maxwell of Benton, KY; Fifth Place, Doreena Strong of Paducah, KY; and Sixth Place, Rose Mary Kunkle of Fancy Farm, KY.
 
“Thanks to everyone who helped make this day such a success,” said Gary Hawkins, LBL’s Recreation Program Manager. “The weather was beautiful, fishing was tough, but everyone had a great time. I think the volunteers and sponsors enjoyed themselves as much as the participants!”
 
Sponsors included Kentucky Lake Bass Club, Aurora General Store, Baits and More, B & J Bait Company, Land Between The Lakes Association, Knights of Columbus, Kroger of Murray, KY, Walmart of Benton, KY, Western Kentucky Regional Mental Health-Mental Retardation Board, Inc., and the U.S. Forest Service.
